Whenever Click and Clack, NPR’s Tappet Brothers, are asked to recommend a vehicle for a listener’s college-bound offspring, they often have one of these at the top of their list. The 1990 Volvo 240 DL not only has a reputation for reliability, but it’s often cited as one of the safest cars of its era — an era which yes, was 26 years ago, but… modern-day electronic gadgetry aside, these things are still safer than a lot of stuff on the road today. Found this visiting Bay State example a while back in Amherst.
