
BATAVIA, N.Y. – When you’re one of the independent U.S. automakers looking to boost sales, sometimes you just need to try a different angle. Here’s a quote from Henry J. Kaiser, in the brochure for this 1952 Kaiser Manhattan: “I firmly believe the ’52 Kaiser’s front seat protection represents the greatest safety-engineering advance in 30 years…” Now I’m not saying this wasn’t a good thing, but I’m not sure it was more important than modern brakes, windshield wipers, safety glass, and other safety features which had come along in the prior 30 years. Safety as a selling point still wasn’t popular in post-WWII America, nor would it be for a quite a few more years. We came upon this Blue Satin Manhattan at the 2013 Grand Nashional Car Show.
