
SMITH MILLS, N.Y. – The 1966 Studebaker Commander may have been the least inexpensive model in the lineup, but it still had Studebaker’s “…bold new styling [which] gives a fresh approach—different from the usual ‘me too’ look.” True, it didn’t look like most other North American-made family cars, which unfortunately meant that it also didn’t appeal to most of the North American car buying public. But don’t try and convince Howard Newberry of the Stude’s inability to appeal (that’s him in the top photo). He has a handful of them scattered over his property, and most of them are still driven semi-regularly.
