RealRides of WNY #2910 ......................... 1957 Pontiac Star Chief

HILTON, N.Y.
– Until the arrival mid-model year of the Bonneville, the 1957 Pontiac Star Chief Custom was the brand’s top dog. Available in two trim levels, DeLuxe and the pricier Custom, Pontiac called the Star Chief “The newest of all the new cars!” A little hyperbole goes a long way. Especially considering that, like the ’57 Chevy, the ’57 Pontiacs were still just an overhaul of the ’55 & ’56 models, hardly newer than Chrysler’s entire all-new lineup. This was the first year in ages that Pontiacs didn’t have their trademark Silver Streaks going up the hood and down the trunklid. In just a couple of years, new Pontiac division chief Semon E. “Bunkie” Knudsen would have them riding high with their new “Wide-Track” advertising campaign. Today’s example was seen at the 8thAnnual Classic Wheels on Main Street car show in 2021.
