RealRides of WNY #2515 ......................... 1962 Rambler American 440

DUNKIRK, N.Y.
– With a starting price of just $2,344 the 1962 Rambler American 400 convertible was the most expensive model of American Motors’ least expensive line of cars ($24 more than the 400 station wagon). That’s about $23,220 in 2023 dollars. The least expensive American was the Deluxe business sedan at $1,832, of which only 283 were produced — but for just $14 more you could get a Deluxe two-door club sedan with a back seat, and almost 30,000 buyers went that route and bought a car much like the one in the brochure illustration below (about $18,287 in 2023 dollars). When we saw this convertible last summer at the Harbor Cruise car show, it was wearing a For Sale sign with an asking price of $7,500. If you’re wondering, that’s about $757 in 1962 dollars. What a deal!! Lol…
