RealRides of WNY #2521 ......................... 1968 Ford XL

AT EVANGOLA STATE PARK
(Still searching for a definitive answer as to just what town the park is located in, Lol) There’s no doubt that the 1968 Ford XL was the sportiest of the big Fords, but that year’s advertising copy writers took the usual liberties when describing its handling properties. Yes, it was probably tighter in the curves than a Country Squire station wagon loaded with eight passengers, but… speaking of traversing a “long, open bend, the washboardy one that’s the terror of every hard-sprung sports car in the neighborhood” as a reason to prefer the XL to, say, a Triumph TR6 sounds pretty silly. Once you make it through that washboardy bend and the road smooths out somewhat, most (all?) actual sports car drivers would rather stick to their actual sports cars, I’d reckon. This nice white example, with its 302cid V8 and Thunderbird wheel covers, was seen at last summer’s Tomato Fest Car & Bike Show.
