
NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. – A few things come to mind whenever I see a 1964 Ford Thunderbird: the Swing-Away steering wheel, and that crazy curved back seat, both as seen in the brochure illustrations below; sequential rear turn signals; and how much less formal they look without the optional rear fender skirts (inset) — yes, they were optional, even though these days almost every ’64 T-Bird seems to have them (automotivemileposts.com has them listed as a $26.60 option, not available with wire wheels). The rear fender shields (as they were officially called) seen on today’s RealRide were part of a $42.20 package which also included the Deluxe Wheel Covers with Simulated Knock-Off Hubs.
