RealRides of WNY #2543 ......................... 1970 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight

OLCOTT, N.Y.
– Today’s RealRide is from the “Interesting Cars in the Show Spectators’ Lot” files. This 1970 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight was probably one of the more comfy rides for getting to the 2019 Olcott Beach Car Show. Surprisingly — or not — Olds offered three different gold tones for model year 1970: Nugget Gold (a special order color), Galleon Gold, and Burnished Gold. There were a whopping 26 paint choices for 1970. Some were of the special order type (four in total), and seven were exclusive to the Toronado. What did the Olds brochure writers think was important to potential Ninety-Eight buyers? How about “…three or more ashtrays, cigar lighters front and rear, and a rotary latch on the glove compartment for easier access.” “Luxury, in the grand manner, permits nothing less” they concluded. Lol…
