RealRides of WNY #2544 (on the road) - 1981 Citroën CX Athena

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.
– Back in the early years of the Reagan administration, if you wanted to drive something which stood out from the crowd you might have considered a 1981 Citroën CX Athena like this one. While nothing like the ground-breaking DS & ID series which came before it, the CX was unmistakably a Citroën. I’d hazard a guess that even the non-car lover would have at least guessed that it was French upon first inspection. Unfortunately, if you wanted a CX in the States you had to try and find one on the gray market, as they weren’t officially imported from Citroën for sale here to the general public. Check out the unfortunate headlight conversion (inset) done by a Minnesota firm to help meet federal regulations. And that Citroën shape? It was designed as both aerodynamic and crashworthy as seen in the illustrations at the bottom of the page. Today's RealRide was seen back in 2008 at the Citroën Rendezvous.
