RealRides of WNY #2547 ......................... 1976 Volkswagen Beetle

SANBORN, N.Y.
– If you want your vehicle to stand out at a car show, one way to do it is with an attention grabbing paint job. Even better when it’s an attention grabbing paint job that came right from the factory. Case in point: this 1976 Volkswagen Beetle sedan and its Lime Green Metallic hue (a new-for 1976 choice). We’ve seen this color on these pages before on other VWs, but this one, you may have noticed, has the optional pop-out rear-quarter windows, along with a set of Porsche hubcaps. By model year 1976, most Beetles didn’t come with hubcaps at all, but rather had the styled steel wheels seen in the gold brochure illustration below. Beetles sold in Mexico mostly got the plain, stamped steel wheels seen on the blue car. Oddly, most brochures I’ve come across show regular stamped wheels and traditional Beetle hubcaps on the convertibles like the red one seen below. Today’s RealRide was seen last summer at the Farm Festival VW Show.
