TONAWANDA, N.Y. – Maybe it’s just me (it often is) but it’s rare in these parts to see one of these with its top in the closed position. So this 1990 Chevrolet Corvette really caught my eye driving home the other day. The only thing more unusual would have been to find a convertible sporting the optional removable hardtop roof (like the one below). According to Chevrolet it weighed only 64 pounds, which I imagine still made it a two-person job to get it off and on. Was it, or wasn’t it a Sting Ray? A Google search performed while looking for the removable hardtop turned up more than one reference to a 1990 Corvette Stingray. There was no such thing. The Stingray (and Sting Ray) badge has appeared off and on since the 1963 models. For 1990, they were Corvettes. Period. For 2023? We’re back to the Stingray (all one word, please!).
