RealRides of WNY #2597 ......................... 1972 Oldsmobile 4-4-2

BRANT, N.Y.
– Regular readers of this page by now know we like to rant about the dearth of colors available these days to new car buyers. The Sunfire Yellow paint job on this 1972 Oldsmobile 4-4-2 is the perfect example of a color you just about never see anymore. If you’ve read this far, you may be asking yourself “Is it a 4-4-2, or a 442?” Depends on where you’re looking. Official written references going back to its introduction in 1964 have dashes between the numerals, but the emblems & badges on the cars themselves did not (no matter what some Wikipedia writers might have you believe). For the final iteration of the nameplate, in the Calais series, Olds didn’t bother with the dashes anymore. It was the Quad 442, one of which we’ve featured here on this page in the past. Today's RealRide was seen in the summer of 2021 at a car show in Evangola State Park.
