RealRides of WNY #2413 ......................... 1979 Concord

The brochure called this 1979 AMC Concord DL “…elegant comfort and an excellent value.” Some might opine that the “…velveteen crushed fabric” seating surfaces reminded them of their grandmother’s living room sofa (hand raised!). Those who wanted an upgrade could move up to the DL Limited and get “genuine leather with corduroy accents.” The Concord was available in two- and four door sedan models, as well wagon and hatchback variants (see below)Alas, the Concord would carry on for just a few more model years, with AMC putting its hopes in the Renault Alliance/Encore compacts and the Concord/Spirit-derived 4-wheel-drive Eagle lineup. They’d all be gone after the 1988 model year, with new AMC owner Chrysler Corporation axing everything except the Jeep models. We found today’s RealRide this past summer sitting off the side of the road in Alexander wearing a For Sale sign.
