RealRides of WNY #2826 ......................... 1960 Chevrolet Impala

Hard to imagine now by looking at it, but the 1960 Chevrolet Impala was actually toned-down a bit (just a bit, though!) from the radical 1959 models — especially at the back end. The double (Biscayne and Bel Air) and triple (Impala) taillight clusters would become somewhat of a Chevy trademark. Begun with MY 1958 (and put on hold for 1959), those rear lamps would be part of Chevy’s styling through the 1990 models in some shape or form. Chevy built almost 491,000 Impalas for MY 1960: two- and four-door sedans and hardtops as well as convertibles (station wagons weren’t badged as Impalas, and so are not included in the production figures). We came across this one (very) late last spring (June 20) at a car show in Wellsville held in conjunction with this year’s Hemmings Motor News Great Race, which made a lunch stop in town at Alfred College.
