RealRides of WNY #2446 ......................... 1990 Pontiac Trans Sport

Day 1 of A Week in Canada…

STEVENSVILLE, Ontario - If you wait long enough, even the weirdest things end up with a cult following. Today, I’d drive one of these things… 30 years ago? Not so much. When the 1990 Pontiac Trans Sport debuted (and its cousins the Chevrolet Lumina and Oldsmobile Silhouette), automotive wags dubbed them the Dustbusters, referring to the rather pointed front ends which resembled (to some) the hand-held portable vacuum of the same name (see below)I always thought it odd that Chevy badged their version as a Lumina APV (All Purpose Vehicle) when it had no resemblance to the other Lumina models whatsoever. (Pontiac and Olds didn’t use the APV moniker in their model names.) Chevy and Pontiac eventually redesigned their front ends a bit to eliminate the Dustbuster look. Today’s RealRide was spotted this past summer sitting by the side of the road.
