RealRides of WNY #2447 ......................... 1958 Buick Special

Day 2 of A Week in Canada…

ANCASTER, Ontario - This 1958 Buick Special (and all other ’58 Buicks) had one of the most labor-intense grilles on the market. According to the Encyclopedia of American Cars, there are 160 individual chrome-plated squares floating in the grille opening. Imagine having to line those up after a crash! As far as brightwork on the rest of the car, no expense was spared — check out the rear quarters as well as the back end. The whole car was revamped for MY 1959, and Buick this time used rectangles (58 or so by my count) instead of squares to fill a smaller grille opening, which to some (hand raised) was a huge improvement over the ’58 look (see below). We spotted this one earlier this fall in the spectators’ parking area of a late season swap meet/car show in town.
