Day 6 of A Week in Canada…
NIAGARA FALLS, Ontario – Besides the squareness of it all, one thing that’s always stood out (to me, anyway) about the 1965 Ford Fairlane 500 and its stablemates is the lack of a Squire station wagon in the lineup. Ford was famous for its faux-wood people movers for years, but when the 1964 & 1965 Fairlane wagons debuted, the Squire wagon was missing – even though there’d been one for 1963 (there were no Fairlane wagons at all in the mid-size Fairlane’s inaugural year of 1962). The Fairlane wagon lineup for 1964 was Ranch Wagon and Custom Ranch Wagon, while the ’65 models went by Fairlane and Fairlane 500 monikers. The totally revamped 1966 lineup finally got with the program, bringing back the Fairlane Squire to the lineup. This Rangoon Red RealRide was spotted back in 2019 at a Cruising On the Q weekly cruise night on Queen Street.
