SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Volkswagen wasn’t the only car manufacturer back in the 1960s to brag about its cars looking the same from year to year. When this 1964 Volvo PV544 Sport was new, the Swedish car company had a brochure titled “Do you know why cars are new! new! new! every year?” Page two’s opening headline was “Neither do we.” The car was introduced in 1944 at a special exhibition in Stokholm as the PV444; enough improvements by 1958 prompted the new PV544 moniker, but the car was still basically the same (at least from the outside). Today’s RealRide is the Sport model, which features the B18 engine first developed for its P1800 sports car. We saw it at the 2015 Hemmings Sports & Exotic Car Show in Saratoga Spa State Park.
