This 1947 Studebaker Commander Regal De Luxe Coupe is another old beauty which can be found in the Buffalo garage of Joseph Galvin. The Commander was Stude’s premium line back in ’47, and this red example is one of over 56,000 produced. In their literature, the South Bend manufacturer called it a thrilling new car that’s a melody in metal—with extra low, extra wide, new bodies by Raymond Loewy, internationally famous designer. (A bit of trivia, Loewy also designed the Lucky Strike cigarette pack - below.) I especially like the view from the rear of these Regal coupes, with their wraparound rear windows (right).
