Some might call it kitsch, while others, being more kind, may prefer garish. But either way, you’ve gotta admit this 1973 Continental Mark IV is no wallflower! The opinion of Lincoln’s brochure copywriters came right to the point: “Quite simply, the most beautiful automobile in America.” Besides that instantly-recognizable exterior styling, it also came with interior features like: “soft-textured Westminster cloth”, “Kashmir walnut woodgrain matina and baby burl walnut woodgrain applique,” “Cartier timepiece, signed by the famous Fifth Avenue jeweler,” and, the topper — “AM radio with power antenna.” AM radio??! In 1973, all you got without paying extra was an AM radio!!? In an age of AM/FM stereo, 8-track tapes, and CB radios, I wonder what Cartier thought of that. Saw this nicely preserved Dark Brown Metallic example a few weeks ago in Tonawanda.
