RealRides of WNY - 1970 Electra 225

When this 1970 Buick Electra 225 was new, one of the advertising slogans of the Flint manufacturer was “Something to believe in.” Size still mattered in 1970, and in one of their ads Buick touted the Electra 225’s 455 cubic inch 4-bbl V-8, and also the fact that Its wheelbase measures a full 127 inches.”  “Okay Jim, how does that translate into 2020 numbers?” Well the 2017 Fiat 500 compact had a wheelbase of about 90 inches, and its overall length was about 140. The 1970 Deuce-and-a-Quarter, as the Electra is affectionately known to some, was a whopping 226 inches long! Needless to say, they were pretty comfy to ride in; and it wasn’t just their massive size, but, as Buick also told us, “The contour of the seats is incredibly comfortable. Because of individually wrapped coil springs.” (How’d you like that job, eight hours a day? Lol.) This gorgeous gold convertible was seen at a 2015 weekend car show at the Frontier Fire Hall in Niagara Falls.
