The 1965 Buick Riviera marked the third model year for the iconic personal luxury coupe, and it was the first year any significant changes were made to its styling. The basic shape remained the same, but in the rear the taillights moved down into the bumper; and up front the headlights moved from the grille into the pods at the ends of the front fenders, where they became vertically stacked and came into view when the pods were opened with the pull of a switch on the dashboard (see photo sequence). In the brochure Buick told us it was a “Good way to amuse your friends.” Were these changes an improvement? The RealRides panel of experts (me) says no, not really. But what do we know? Saw this one in the Town of Wales back in 2014.
