This 1966 Volkswagen 1300 hearkens back to a time when these things were seen in every neighborhood, every shopping center parking lot, and … well, everywhere! This one, spotted at a cruise night in 2014 at the Texas Road House in Tonawanda, has a few non-stock items showing (newer hubcaps, body-color rims, headlamp “eyebrows”), but it appears to be in remarkable shape for a 54-year-old. As always, changes would come for 1967, and even bigger changes for 1968. The 1300 (a.k.a. Type 1, Bug, Beetle, etc) would soldier-on through MY 1979 in North America, before finally ending production in Mexico in 2003.
