Looking at the color choices for the 1972 Chevrolet Chevelle SS, I’m not sure this one’s sporting a factory paint job. The SS of course originally stood for Super Sport, and in one ad Chevy called this one “The super sporty Malibu.” That was in contrast to a less opulent but just as potent model, the Heavy Chevy, which they referred to in the same ad as “The very sporty Chevelle.” See them both below (Heavy Chevy on the left). For comparison sake, think Plymouth GTX/Road Runner. We saw this one a few weeks ago in Wheatfield.
