RealRides of WNY - 1978 Cherokee

We last saw this 1978 Jeep Cherokee just down the street from the RealRides offices. A few weeks ago we spotted it again in a used car lot on Main Street in Buffalo. Yes, you could have your very own edition of what many consider to be the grand-daddy of SUVs. Back in the day, Jeep wasn’t exactly sure what to call it, as the term SUV hadn’t been widely used yet (if at all) — one brochure referred to it as “…the multi-purpose Jeep Cherokee.” That about covers it, I’d say. Standard equipment was the same 258cid I-6 which currently propels my 1981 AMC Spirit hatchback. Four-wheel-drive was of course standard, and it came in two- and four-door models — two-door “wide-wheel” versions, with add-on fender flares, were also offered.
