The brochure called the 1972 Ford Maverick Grabber “A Little Big-Sport… the Simple Machine in snazzy sports clothing.” That outfit included (among other things): simulated hood scoops, deck lid spoiler, dual racing mirrors, grille-mounted road lamps, Grabber decal with lower back panel paint/tape (available in one of four color combinations), and hub caps with trim rings. Was it all show and no go? In some cases, yes, as all Mavericks still came standard with Ford’s 170cid straight six, but a bigger, 200cid six and a 302 V8 were available at extra cost. We saw this one a few summers ago at the annual car show in Olcott.
