It’s time for another edition of “I Haven’t Seen One of Those In Ages!” Yesterday on this page we featured a Corvair Monza. Today’s RealRide is a reincarnation — at least of the name: a 1980 Chevrolet Monza 2 + 2 Sport Hatchback, seen a few weeks ago at a weekly cruise night at The Big Indian Smoke Shop in Irving. Confusingly, the hatchback came in two distinct models with two distinctive front ends. This was the pricier one, but there was also a lower-priced 2 + 2 Hatchback Coupe (below) which shared a front clip with the notchback Monza Coupe. General Motors’ badge engineering was in full swing in 1980 with versions of the Monza also offered by Pontiac (Sunbird), Oldsmobile (Starfire), and Buick (Skyhawk). What, no Cadillac? Lol… Model year 1980 would be the last for these cars.
