RealRides of WNY - 1961 Impala

This past week we featured a ’61 Ford, so it only seems fitting that we come back with a car which was one of its main rivals, the 1961 Chevrolet Impala Sport Coupe. This nice-looking two-door hardtop was seen over the summer at a cruise night in Medina. From the trunk emblem we can surmise that it’s equipped with Chevy’s HI-THRIFT six, which they told us was “the industry’s most thoroughly refined 6-cylinder design.” To help you identify what’s under the hoods of other ’61 Chevys you might come across, see the illustration below for the array of engine size-related trunk badges. Interestingly, the Super Sport option package was available on any 1961 Impala model (read all about it here). The Super Sport would become a separate series for MY 1964, limited to the two-door hardtop and a convertible.
