The brochure for this 1968 Pontiac Bonneville tells us “…it may be synonymous with luxury—but let us not forget what, in fact, inspired its name.” Then, in fact, they never bothered to tell us what that inspiration was! Was it the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah? The Triumph Bonneville motorcycle? We’re pretty sure it wasn’t Downton Abbey’s Hugh Bonneville, who wasn’t even born until 1963 (the Bonneville debuted during model year 1957). This one really shows off the rakish lines of all of GM’s full-size two-door hardtops for 1968, discounting of course Cadillac and the Buick Electra & Olds Ninety-Eight, which were in a completely different category. We came across this one a few weeks ago in Alden.
