The brochure writers called this 1964 Volkswagen Type 2 “…the Pick-Up for builders, farmers, electricians, plumbers, flooring contractors.” Citing its 1,764-lb. load capacity — “only 236 pounds short of a ton,” and large, flat load area — “...all flat, all usable,” it certainly seemed to make sense. “Hinged sides and tailboard” made loading and unloading easy from all three sides. It also featured a locking compartment under the floor, accessible from the side. I’m guessing that its 1500cc, 50-hp 4-cylinder engine probably kept sales down in the U.S. Saw this one at the 2017 Olcott Beach Car Show in Olcott.
