It’s always fun to show up at a cruise night in something you can be pretty sure no one else will — like this 1965 Mercury Comet 202, seen a few years back at a weekly cruise night in Olean. This one’s sporting what I like to call the AMT 3-in-1 treatment: fender skirts with flame decals, a home-made two-tone paint job in a matte finish, spinner wheel covers, and a pair of one-of-a-kind ’65 Comet taillights. (The Street Masters club plate dangling from the rear license plate is also a nice period touch.) The stock taillights for the 202 and 404 series can be seen here in the top brochure illustration of the gold sedan, while the pricier Caliente models featured a busier design as seen on the red convertible beneath it. Today’s RealRide’s taillights fall somewhere in between.
