We ran into Middleport’s Bob Smith and his newly acquired 1979 Ford LTD over the summer at the All-Ford car show at West-Herr Ford in Hamburg. Showing a mere 13k on the odometer, Mr. Smith’s LTD still sports a window decal (below) featuring the dealership and salesman’s names involved in its initial purchase back in the day. That’s something I’ve never seen before. These were the first down-sized big Fords, and they let us know that even though they were smaller on the outside, “The ’79 LTD’s actually have more 6-passenger head, leg, knee, and shoulder room than the spacious ’78 models!” You may have come across this car at other cruise nights over the summer and are thinking “this looks different than I remember it.” We photographed it before the whitewalls & wheelcovers were replaced by aftermarket mag-style wheels & blackwall tires.
