It wasn’t difficult for this 1974 AMC Gremlin X to catch our eye earlier this fall as we drove through Tonawanda. Not many Daisy Yellow cars with bright orange side stripes can blend into the background. The “X” was an option package whose particulars can be seen at the bottom of the page. It seems funny now to read one of the Gremlin’s magazine ads from back in the day, where AMC told us that “For all its engine…” — all Gremlins came standard with an inline six-cylinder under the hood — “…the car is very easy on gas. Averages over 18 mpg.” Lol. Ford’s Pinto and Chevy’s Vega, with their four-cylinder powerplants, were averaging in the mid to high 20s… which today ain’t so great, either.
