From the Straightedge School of Automotive Design comes this 1986 Plymouth Gran Fury. The nearly identical 1985 model’s brochure called it “…a lot of car for the money.” Meanwhile, Dodge was telling us that their slightly more upscale version of the car, the Diplomat, “…offers all the traditional comforts and luxuries that make full-sized cars so appealing.” Not to be outdone, Chrysler’s flagship version of this same boxy sedan, the Fifth Avenue, was, according to the brochure, “…perhaps the most elegantly conceived luxury sedan in the world.” And that’s perhaps the most hyperbolical statement in the entire history of automotive advertising! Today’s RealRide was seen last month parked on a North Tonawanda street corner.
