RealRides of WNY - 1988 Mustang

Buyers of the 1988 Ford Mustang LX convertible were treated to something not available on the hardtop or the fastback models — roll-down rear quarter windows! Cars like this one, with the optional 5.0L V8, also came with the cast aluminum wheels seen on today’s RealRide, as well as a “decklid luggage rack with integrated high-mount stop lamp.” That center brake lamp was still a relatively new item, being mandated on all cars in the U.S. manufactured after September 1, 1985, and the feeling here is that Ford included the (probably seldom used) luggage rack on the convertibles to have a place to mount the light without it just sitting out there on top of the trunk lid. Saw this Cabernet Red example for sale over the summer in Tonawanda.
