When I happened upon this 1977 GMC C-6000 stake truck a few weeks ago while on a walk in the City of Tonawanda, it reminded me of the face of the myriad school buses I used to see back in the old neighborhood — and yes, before you ask, by 1977 I’d been out of school for “a few years,” Lol. Of course, when I checked out the ’77 GMC medium truck brochure, the school buses looked nothing like this stake truck (inset).To my credit, at least they both have a GMC badge on the grille! I’m sure that people buying these trucks know just what they need, but browsing through that sales brochure had my head spinning with the number of choices to be made as to drivetrain, chassis, body… pretty much everything. You could even choose how you wanted the hood to open! (below)
