The badging on the 1972 Oldsmobile is a bit confusing. It is identified both as a Delta 88 and a Delta Royale. So we consulted Olds’ brochure, figuring they’re the experts. Turns out it’s a Delta 88 Royale — the only full-sized convertible on offer that year (see brochure illustration below). Non-Royale Delta 88s didn’t have the snazzy fake louvers on the front fenders, which is where they had their identifying badge positioned. A “Delta 88” badge on the Delta 88 Royale was located on the rear quarter panel just ahead of the side marker light, while a “Delta Royale” badge was positioned on the lower right edge of the trunk lid. This one was photographed back in the summer of 2019 at the annual car show held at Gratiot Park in Dunkirk.
