RealRides of WNY - 1973 Riviera

Let’s face it, if you’re gonna bother photographing a 1973 Buick Riviera, the view from the rear is the “money shot.” Commonly known as Boattail Rivieras (hopefully for obvious reasons), this body style ran from model years 1971 through 1973. It sort of continued on for a couple more years, but the ’74 through ’76 models had the boattail clipped-off in favor of a more traditionally shaped roof & decklid. When introduced for 1971, Buick described the Riviera’s “…motion-sculptured steel and glass that slices off a whole new world for itself.” No mention of the mid-60s Corvette Sting Ray though, which had to have been a major influence to the Buick stylists (seen below in a brochure illustration). We saw today’s RealRide last fall in Youngstown.
