The 1965 Ford Galaxie 500 was a totally different car from the previous year’s — angular where the ’64 had been more rounded, and with vertically stacked headlights up front which gave it a feeling of height rather than width. Out back, Ford’s circular taillights were relegated to the trash bin on all models save for the low rung Custom, as well as the Custom 500 (seen below in a brochure illustration) models which, oddly, retained the ’64 model’s round lenses centered within a pair of hexagonal frames which mimicked the ’65 Galaxie’s new lens shape. We saw this one a little over a year ago at a cruise night at the Anchor Bar in Amherst.
