The 1962 Ford Galaxie 500/XL isn’t found in most of Ford’s 1962 brochures as it was a mid-model year addition. The Encyclopedia of American Cars tells us that Ford added the 500 designation to the Galaxie’s name for 1962 in recognition of the many 500-mile NASCAR races they’d won up to that point; and the XL referred to Extra Lively. The 500/XL was available as this Sunliner convertible as well as a Club Victoria two-door hardtop. Ford sold 13,183 and 28,412 of them, respectively. We saw this one a couple of weekends ago at the Festival at the Beach Car Show at Evangola State Park in Farnham (Brant? Irving? Take your pick, Lol…).
