Spent a week in Seattle, Washington recently, and of course took some time finding old cars — they’re everywhere! Right around the corner from our Airbnb was this 1979 Honda Civic 1200 hatchback. In ’79 the Civic was also available as a similarly-shaped 2-door sedan (with a miniscule trunk opening) as well as a 4-door station wagon. Standard powertrain was Honda’s transverse-mounted 1237cc engine connected to a four-speed manual transmission. A high-tech CVCC engine was available in the (surprise!) CVCC series. Some Civic models had a two-speed automatic available, as well as a five-speed manual. All came with four-wheel independent suspension, power front disc brakes, rack and pinion steering, and front-wheel-drive. Here’s a link to the 1979 brochure.
